Guglielmo Marconi
Guglielmo Marconi was born on April 25, 1874 at Bologna, Italy. He was the second son of Giuseppe Marconi, an Italian country gentleman and Annie Jameson daughter of Andrew Jameson of Daphne Castle, Wexford, Ireland. He was educated privately at Bologna and Florence. As a young boy he showed keen interest in physics.In 1907 Guglielmo Guglielmo Marconi was the first Italian to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics. The Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded annually from 1901 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Science. It is awarded at a formal ceremony held on December 10 at Stockholm, Sweden.
In 1914 he joined the Italian Army as a Lieutenant and he was later promoted to Captain. In 1916 he became a Commander in the Navy. In 1917 he was a member of the Italian Government Mission to the United States of America. In 1919 he was appointed Italian plenipotentiary delegate to the Paris peace Conference. In 1919 he was awarded the Italian Military Medal in recognition of his war service. During World War I he was in charge of the Italian wireless service. This was the period when he began developing short wave communication transmissions.
